West Valley city named among fastest growing in U.S.
A new WalletHub report of the fastest and slowest growing cities ranked Surprise No. 5. It was the only Arizona city in a top 10 list dominated by Texas cities.
The report ranked cities on 14 metrics to see which had grown the most between 2009 and 2015. Among those measurements were college-educated population grown and unemployment rate decrease.
For more than two decades, Surprise often has found itself at the top of the list for fast growing Arizona cities. It grew from about 35,000 residents in 2000 to more than 117,000 by 2010 and has an estimated population of about 127,000 now.
Gilbert, which has been touted as one of the fastest growing cities, was ranked No. 57 on the list and was the next Arizona city after Surprise. Peoria was the third Arizona city ranked on the list at No. 167, and Chandler was ranked No. 189.
